TE Morris – An Ocean Is Enough To Love

Her Name Is Calla are not a band that I’ve ever really got into with any real enthusiasm.  I remember playing a show with them way back when and being impressed enough, but the records that I did get my hands on were never anything more than quite good.  They just never really grabbed me the way I want music to.

TE Morris is one of the band.  The main man I believe – for main man read front man not most important.  And this is a beautiful little ep.  In fact, it’s just gorgeous.

Consisting of only acoustic guitar and his vocal Morris has crafted an ep full of beautiful imagery and poetic magic.  If there is a finer song than ‘A Golden Hawk Too Far Away’ this year then I will be surprised.  Simple and beautiful this ep is everything I could want from a short ep.  In fact, as ep’s go it’s just about perfect.  Vocally, musically it is spot on.  Ep closer ‘Thumper’, a duet with his daughter is a bit of light relief and put a huge smile on my face.  A lot of people will probably scoff at that moment as a blip on the record but for me it just adds to the human feel to this record.  It is what it is.  And I love that about it.

This might not turn me on to Her Name Is Calla because they are a very different beast.  However, it is definitely worth checking out.  You can do so here.  Enjoy.
