Music in 2011

I recently read a piece about how there have been relatively few good albums released so far in 2011.  It’s funny, because for me, the first half of 2011 has been jam packed with some brilliant, brilliant records.  So far I’ve loved records by Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto,  The Antlers,  Bill Wells and Aidan Moffat, Bright Eyes, Bon Iver, Caught in the Wake Forever, Conquering Animal Sound, Cory Allen, David Newlyn, Death Cab for Cutie,  Dustin O’Halloran, The Felice Brothers, FiRES Were Shot, Grouper, Guy Gelem,  J Tillman,  Johann Johannsson, Josh T Pearson,  King Creosote and Jon Hopkins, M. Ostermeier,  Mogwai, Radiohead and Sleepingdog…to name a few.  There are loads more.

I don’t know if it’s because I listen to a wide range of music.  Nor do I know if people are speaking about mainstream music when they say there have not been many good albums released so far this year.  What I do know is that I think 2011 has been awesome for music so far and if the second half of 2011 is anywhere near as good then I’ll be very happy indeed.  Plus, there is a Wilco album due out later this year.  So it’s all good as far as I’m concerned!
