Father John Misty

Preach to me Misty.

New album coming in January.  Box set ordered.  Happy.

Bloodbridge is a short film inspired by, and featuring, the song Bloodbridge, by Graveyard Tapes. The film focuses on a hermit, a social recluse, and we join him on his journey through the darkest depths of his mind. Shot entirely on 8 and 16mm film, it is an experimental project inspired by an interest in mythology, psychoanalysis, lucid dream research and dream interpretation. The film was shot on location in and around London, and features appearances by a burlesque dancer, bagua inspired martial artists and a fire performer. It was shot on a shoestring budget, and remains one of the last films in the UK to use Fuji 16mm film stock.

Five Years Old And This Weeks Listening is…

Well, I forgot about this until wordpress reminded me the other day.  I haven’t been online with the blog for a while – something that happens from time to time when I get too busy with other things – so when I logged in it was nice to have a congratulaitons message for being 5 years old.    Seems like no time since I started the blog and yet forever ago.   Five years on and so much has changed in my life but also in music as well.  The blog has stopped reviewing – mainly because I don’t have the time but also because I don’t really feel like I have the energy to keep writing about music.  There is so much to be inspired by but also so much to say “meh” too because it’s ok, bordering on good but nothing challening or special.  So I guess the best thing to do is just highlight the music I am listening to at the moment.

Keaton Henson – Birthdays

This man sounds a bit like a cross between Damien Rice and Conor Oberst when he sings.  What a voice.  Seriously, the music itself is heartbreakingly beautiful but the voice makes it special.  Cannot get enough of this record, and in particular the track below.

Mum – Smilewound

One of those bands I always liked but never loved.  This album could definitely change this for the better.  On repeat at the moment.

Chvrhces – The Bones of What You Believe

Lead singer Lauren Maybury used to be the drummer in Boyfriend/Girlfriend with James from Conquering Animal Sound and she was shit hot drummer.  Awesome vocalist too by all accounts.  This is like 80s synth pop.  Maybe the wrong time of year for the release but sounding really interesting.

Tim Hecker – Virgins

I love Tim Hecker.  Loved seeing him live last year at Pilrig Church in Edinburgh and loving his new record too.  Check it out.

Last Days – Satellite

Unknown by most in this city, Last Days is a stunning musicians who keeps a low profile in terms of shows etc – but wow what a master of his craft.  This really is exciting.  The fact nobody knows of him and yet he is so established shows how out of touch most people in Scottish music are.

Bastardgeist – Bastardgeist

Well, this one is for mini50 fans.  We will be working with this man in 2014 and we cannot wait.  He’s also coming to our cities to play some shows – which is very exciting.
