Top Twenty of 2013. Number 10 – Ben Lukas Boysen – Gravity

A bit like Brambles record ‘Charcoal’ from last year, ‘Gravity’ by Ben Lukas Boysen kind of came out of the blue and struck a serious chord with me.  As much as I love the more abrasive and challenging sphere of music, I am drawn time and again to pieces of simple beauty.  Whilst others will talk of Nils Frahm and Olafur Arnalds releases as significant releases of 2013 in this genre, I would draw your attention to this brilliant piece of music (though Frahm himself takes on production duties) and say that if you choose one piece of contemporary classical music this year then make it this.  Simply gorgeous.
